Got Tile!!!

Yesterday morning we decided to make a run out to the NE part of town and pick up the tile we had bought but found out we didn't have when we got home. (see previous post) We weren't sure which city bus to take but we at least had a good idea of the general location of the bus line what would most likely get us there. But, we have found out we shouldn't rely on "most likely".  Everybody was in the San Valentin spirit for sure. We saw lots of flowers, heart-shaped balloons, candy, and stuffed animals being carried around town. Even though many people don't have lots of disposable income, the people of the Merida are giving and always seem to spend pesos on their loved ones. There even seemed to be more smiles and a feeling of love and excitement in the air. Along the way, Terry turned to me and said something about our final destination...and in almost a whisper. A city policeman in the middle of the street directing traffic overheard him and pointed in a direction saying that was the bus to take right there. Really? How did he hear that exchange between us? Sure enough, we walked over and loaded up and were on our way. Lesson learned - policemen in Merida have excellent hearing! His heart was full of love, and we appreciated it dearly.

The bus went directly in front of the tile place but we stayed on and went a little further to the Plaza. Just wanted to check it out, then we walked back a couple of blocks to the tile place. As soon as we walked in, Sr. Rosel spotted us and couldn't get up fast enough to go get the neatly-packaged box of tiles waiting for our return. He was very apologetic, but we assured him it wasn't his fault.Caught the bus back to centro and Terry lugged the box of tile home.

We are now ready for Monday and the Tile Project to begin.

Later in the day, we went out for an early dinner to celebrate Valentine's. It was Yucatecan food all the way at La Chaya Maya in the beautiful colonial building location...no camera so pictures next time, but the interior is one big open air patio with arched columns surrounded by beautifully painted, high-ceilinged rooms. We had a wonderful meal with wonderful wine for less than USD $30. Then it was off to Ki'Xocolatl for some locally-made chocolates. We picked out one bar of dark, unsweetened chocolate and one bar of chocolate, lightly sweetened with red pepper. Stopped off at one of the outdoor areas surrounding the Plaza for a cold beer and some people watching then came home. We splurged with the wine and chocolate out on the patio. The chocolate was to die for!
It's been a busy day with planning projects, doing projects, walking daily, and going to the beach. This past Wednesday was Galveston cruise ship day in Progreso so we made a trip down there. We always know beforehand if it is a cruise ship day by the condition of the buses bound for Progreso. If they are new and nice it ISN'T cruise day, but if they are older that means the cruisers are in port and get the newer, nicer buses. Terry made another "shoe deal". One of our favorite beach waiters had always loved Terry's Reefs with the bottle openers on the bottom so Terry agreed to bring him a pair that were still wearable but gently-worn on our next return trip. In return, we get free cerveza and botanas. Hey, I'm in!!!

This morning I got up and put the finishing touches on the wall mural....it was one of my funnest projects yet. I could keep adding stuff but my inner voice was saying "it is time to quit". Now, it is on to the next project!!!
